Z/Yen Group, a London-based commercial think tank, in collaboration with the China Development Institute (CDI), a think tank located in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, published the 23rd edition of the Global Financial Centers Index (GFCI 23) on March 26.
Chengdu, as the only city in southwest China listed on the GFCI 23, ranked 82nd among all financial centers worldwide, rising from 86th in last edition. By the end of 2017, the added value of the city's financial industry reached RMB160.43 billion, up 8.4% year on year, and accounting for 11.6% of its GDP.
Z/Yen released the first edition of GFCI in March 2007, and established a partnership with the CDI in 2016 to co-produce the GFCI. Updated every March and September, the rankings aim to evaluate the competitiveness of global financial centers in terms of their business environment, human capital, reputation, infrastructure, and development in the financial sector.
